Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI)

K’we

Levelled Literacy Intervention groups are well underway and are into their third week of a fifteen-week program.

What is the purpose of LLI?

Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) is a supplemental literacy intervention designed to help struggling readers achieve grade-level competency. LLI is delivered through explicit, direct instruction in a small-group format. Fast- paced lessons aim to engage students and promote rapid processing.

Why do readers struggle?

Some kids have a learning disability that makes reading difficult to learn. Others come to school without the literacy experiences they need to become readers. Some children struggle because they've received poor or inadequate reading instruction.

New Levelled Literacy Intervention (LLI) groups have started and will continue until June.

There are six groups of three, each group will receive 15 weeks of Levelled Literacy Intervention. (LLI)

Each Levelled Literacy Intervention (LLI) session is 40 mins each day.

Levelled Literacy Intervention (LLI) is a short-term, supplementary, small-group literacy intervention designed to help struggling readers achieve grade-level competency. LLI helps teachers match students with texts of progressing difficulty and deliver systematic lessons targeted to a student's reading ability.

Happy New Year and Welcome back!

Now that we are home doing online learning, each group will be given their dates to join their ELI group online.  All ELI information will be communicated through your child’s classroom teacher, to save the confusion on emails from different teachers. Each group will meet for 30 mins online, for five lessons in total over the next three weeks. Remember to keep reading and writing every day. I hope to see you all in the new year!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!

K’we Parents and Guardians

ELI will begin the week of October 26th.  The ELI program will consist of 15 weeks of everyday sessions for thirty minutes.  Each group will have three students attending one session for thirty minutes.  Remember that The Fountas & Pinnell Early Literacy Intervention System (ELI) is an intensive, small-group, supplementary literacy intervention for students who find reading and writing difficult. The goal of ELI is to lift the literacy achievement of students who are not achieving grade-level expectations in reading.  My goal is to help them improve specific reading skills such as letter-naming, initial sounds, phoneme segmentation, and comprehension strategies.

Here is some information about LLI and what to expect if your child is chosen for the LLI program.

My Job Goal: To help students develop proficient reading skills that will contribute to their academic growth. Responsibilities: Reading interventionists work extensively with students to help them improve specific reading skills such as letter-naming, initial sounds, phoneme segmentation, and comprehension strategies.

What does LLI stand for?

Leveled Literacy Intervention System

The Fountas & Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention System (LLI) is an intensive, small-group, supplementary literacy intervention for students who find reading and writing difficult. What is the difference between LLI and guided reading?

LLI is meant to supplement classroom instruction, whereas guided reading is differentiated classroom instruction.  Guided reading is used with all students while LLI is used with readers who are having difficulty and are reading below grade level. Leveled books are used for both guided reading and LLI

Everyone enjoy the sun and have a great summer break.

See you all in September.

Hi All,

I hope everyone is staying safe and is doing well during this difficult time.  I hope that we will all get to see each other real soon.  It has a been a bit of time that we have been working in your reading and writing groups. Remember to read every day for 10 minutes.

I'm posting so helpful hints for parents and Guardians, to use when reading with their children.

Family Literacy Tips:

  1. Ask your child questions about the story you're reading to ensure comprehension.
  2. Book family time to read with your children every day.
  3. Create a special reading place in your home, with your child's favorite books within reach.

Here are some general tips on improving literacy skills:

  1. Read. As much as you can. ...
  2. Keep notes. Whenever you find interesting words that are used in order to describe something more easily, write them down somewhere (have a notebook just for new words). ...
  3. Write. New words, lists, stories, 1-2 sentences, etc.
  4. Get interested in new things.
