Guidance

Kwe’,

Tara and I are still working on sending our permission slips to parents/guardians of children from Primary - Grade 6.  We have made way around to most of the classes.  Tara’s office is located in Mary Davis’ room.

Our lobster trap making is a bit at a stand still for now.  We are waiting for more gear to arrive.  When it arrives, we will pick up where we left off.

If your child wishes to have a chat, they can let their teacher know or stop in to arrange a time. Individual sessions, a mask is not required since we will be 6ft apart. Group sessions, a mask is required.

Kwe',

We have a new practicum student (Counselling) coming to LSK, Tara.  She will be with us until the end of the school year.  We will be sending our permission slips to parents/guardians of children from Primary - Grade 6.  This is exciting to have more help to reach out to our students.

We will be starting our lobster trap making with the grade 9's and some high school students in March.  We will be working with fisheries to make this happen.

We are wrapping up our rabbit snaring with grades 4-12.  The students learned a lot about snaring from patterns, making a snare, skinning a rabbit, cleaning and cooking.  This project was put together by Greg Marr, Jon Michael and myself.  We will continue this every year.

If your child wishes to have a chat, they can let their teacher know or stop in to arrange a time. Individual sessions, a mask is not required since we will be 6ft apart. Group sessions, a mask is required.

Hope all is well,

It has been awhile since we were under the same roof, with the early shutdown (online learning) and Christmas Break. So, welcome back!!!

I will be doing a check in with all students eventually.  It may take some time to do this but I will get around to each student.

Here we are again at the most loved time of the year – Christmas.  Even though there is no snow yet, we are still rockin’ around the Christmas tree. Virtual has become a go to word for now…virtual school, visits, parties and all other things we are used to doing in real life. So, grab your computer, phone, tablet, whatever and celebrate like you’ve never celebrated before…but safely!

Global History 12 – What a great class.  We have had very interesting discussions with respect being paid at all times. We have only 2 Units left to go and I am confident we will finish them. Students are working on case studies from The Pursuit of Justice Unit and will be beginning the next unit on Social Change.

Sociology 12 -  I am enjoying teaching this subject to this class.  We are finishing the unit on Crime and Deviance and will be beginning the next one, Race and Ethnicity,

next week. I look forward to the very interesting discussions we have as a  class.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

Hope all is going well,

As we move to online learning/classes, I will still be available for the students who are in Jr/Sr High School.  I will be popping into their online classes periodically to do daily check-ins and to let them know that I will be there to have those chats.

For the students who need to chat, please don't hesitate to reach out to me at bbrooks@lskschool.ca and we can schedule a time.

Keep an eye out on our LSK Facebook page and LSK website for updates and some mindfulness worksheets to help your mental health.  These worksheets aren't just for our students, they are great for everyone!!

Be mindful and be safe!

Thanks,
Bryan Brooks

Global History 12

We are done with the Cuban Missile Crisis and are moving on to inequality of life in the Northern and Southern countries of the world.  As we all know, water, its conditions and availability are different in the financial Gap.  Therefore, as the Case Study assigned will be "Water: a Common Concern."  I am hoping to arrange for a speaker to address the class on this very important subject.

The students are working diligently and have warmed to the idea of discussion.  I look forward to every class.

Sociology 12

We are in the midst of a Unit on Culture and its effects on populations.  We are examining material and nonmaterial cultures and how modern trends have escalated over the years i.e. the computer.

The students have completed the Unit 1 Test and I am very happy to report that everyone who wrote the test passed.

Kwe’

With September coming to a close, it has been a good month for school.  We took precautions to make sure the safety of our students, staff and admin, when necessary.  Students have been in great spirits and the daily routine is starting to become the new norm.

If your child wishes to have a chat, they can let their teacher know and appointments can be made. I would love to end with a saying my grandmother always said, ‘We have two ears and one mouth for a reason...we need to listen to twice the information before we speak!’

Hope all is well,

Guidance (P-6)
Things are going well.  I have seen a few people but now I am at home because of the grades 10-12 bubble.  Things should be back to "normal" by Friday of this week.

Global History 12
So far so good.  Very nice class that can spark some good conversation.  We are working on the Cuban Missile Crisis right now, culminating with a case study.  I encourage all students to access assignments on Google Classroom and to return assignments in the same manner.

Sociology 12
A slightly larger class, by LSK standards.  Nice students who are, generally, interested in the subject.  We are just wrapping up the first Unit, which examines different perspectives on the study and meaning of Sociology.  This is completed when the assignment has been returned via Google classroom.

My name is Bryan Brooks and I recently switched roles from being the Physical Education teacher to the School Counsellor for Junior High and High School.  I am not limited to just Junior High and High School.  If your child is in the elementary grades and you wish that I work with him or her, please do not hesitate to reach out.

When entering my office, there will be a hand sanitizer at the door that every student and teacher will be required to use when entering and leaving.  During individual counselling, students do not need to wear a mask since we will be 6ft apart, but during group sessions, everyone will be required to wear a mask.  The first week of school, I will be going class to class to explain my role and how sessions will work this year.

It has been a while since we were all under one roof but I assure you, teachers, staff and administration will be working hard to make this school as safe as possible.  There are directional stickers on the floor, hand sanitizing stations throughout the school, stops signs on the doors and rules/procedures that are in place.  We have a great team at LSK and we are excited to start this school year
