May 2021 Note…

The students of Mi’kmaq Studies 11, had participated in a few days workshop at school. They learned the process involved from: Removing the flesh, soaking in solution, scraping off the membrane and wring out the moisture, to setting them to dry. They skinned beaver, coyote, and muskrat. As a group we also ate one of the beavers as an offering and feast when we completed the process, most students and other students of the school had an opportunity to taste beaver for the very first time.
